About Us
Hey there – David and Ben here. XrayMyPay was founded by us, two brothers, both nurses, with over a decade at the bedside each. Over our careers we have noticed a troubling vicious cycle: nurses get recruited to a “caring” profession; nurses realise they don’t have time for patient care and their profession doesn’t care for them; their pay stagnates; morale plummets; nurses leave for better work (environment, pay, stress), or burnout of the profession as crusty crabs; hospitals replace them with expensive travel nurses; hospital bobble-heads scratch their noggins, issue surveys to staff, agree that it can’t be the pay; agree that it must just be the times and the big puzzling nursing shortage (roughly 1/5th of the nursing workforce leaves each year); hospitals work to shore up and invest in the pipeline of new wide-eyed naive nurses and cross their fingers hoping they can keep them two years. Our healthcare system is broken. The revolving door approach is wasteful of money and people. As nurses ourselves, we would come up for air and look around at our colleagues, it often felt like we were looking at a sea of new faces. It's sobering to be 5 years into a nursing career and realize that you are one of the most experienced nurses there. This revolving door drains hospital budgets and morale while simultaneously compromising patient care. We are convinced that it can be better for nurses AND the medical systems that they work in.
Why it matters
We’ve both felt the frustration of loving patient care but hating the system at various points over our entire careers. We think that if you are reading this you have too. Nurses make up about 30% of the overall healthcare workforce - the largest segment. Nurses have consistently ranked in national polls as America's most trusted profession for the last 20 years. Nurses don’t have a problem with advocating for our patients, we have a problem with advocating for ourselves. By sharing what we learn, we can stand stronger together, care for our patients, and get compensated as the professionals we are.
Why we started Xray My Pay
We think that real change starts with transparency. Hospitals often offer superficial perks ( think pizza parties, branded swag, wellness apps, temporary bonuses, morale-boosting spirit weeks, and leadership walkarounds) instead of addressing core issues: fair pay, safe staffing, and giving nurses a genuine voice. Nurses deserve better.
Where we are headed
XrayMyPay empowers nurses with real salary data. Armed with knowledge, you can negotiate effectively, explore new opportunities, or confirm you’re already in a good spot. Imagine if the pay was right from the start and organizations were proactively fighting to keep who they have instead of constantly wooing the nurses across town or the travel companies. Imagine how different patient care or the nursing orientation could be if there was a solid core of experienced nurses on every unit who weren’t completely burnt out. We’re not just collecting information; we’re building a movement.
